Frequently asked questions

How do letter grades map to the 4.0 scale?
On the common scale an A is 4.0, B is 3.0, C is 2.0 and D is 1.0, with plus and minus grades stepping by about 0.3 or 0.4. So a B+ is around 3.3. Schools vary slightly, and this converter uses the standard mapping as a starting point.
What percentage is an A?
On the typical United States scale an A is 90 to 100 percent, B is 80 to 89, C is 70 to 79 and D is 60 to 69. Some schools use a finer split with plus and minus bands. The converter shows the letter for a percentage on this standard scale.
Do all schools use the same scale?
No. Grade boundaries and the exact grade-point values differ between schools and countries, so treat the result as the standard mapping rather than your institution’s exact rule. Use your school’s official scale where it differs.
Is anything I type sent to a server?
No. Everything runs inside your browser, so the work you do here stays on your own device and nothing is uploaded. There is no sign-up and no limit on how many times you use it, and once the page has loaded it keeps working with no connection.
